Origins and Early Vocation
Francisco Hernández, known artistically as Chesco, was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. From a very young age, he felt a strong inclination toward art, experimenting with landscapes on canvas and self-taught techniques. During his teenage years, he managed to sell some of his first works to friends and family, while others remained as a testament to his talent in his mother’s home. Although his academic path led him to graduate as an Industrial Engineer, art always remained a latent drive in his life.

For nearly two decades, Chesco built a solid career as an engineer in oil and gas corporations in his hometown. It was a stage marked by professional and family commitment, during which art was put on hold. Marriage, fatherhood, and the responsibilities of daily life temporarily took the brush from his hands, but never from his thoughts.
Artistic Rebirth
In 2007, a job opportunity led him to settle in New Orleans, USA, a city that became a turning point. Surrounded by art, music, and a vibrant culture, Chesco rediscovered his creative drive. He began with abstract compositions and, over time, consolidated a visual language of his own, centered on geometry, color, and movement. Since then, his work has evolved with intensity, especially in recent years, where kinetic art has become the central axis of his visual exploration.
Artist Background
Francisco Hernández is a Venezuelan-American artist based in the Houston, Texas area. His work is framed within geometric abstraction with defined edges, deeply inspired by masters of Latin American art, especially the Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz-Diez and Jesús Soto.
His paintings aim to create bold yet balanced compositions that invite the viewer to expand their perception. Through carefully organized geometric forms, Francisco generates a subtle sense of multidimensional movement, perceptible when observing the work closely.
Although he trained as an engineer, he often describes himself as an artist who was “momentarily distracted” by engineering.
He believes this dual background has enriched his creative approach, providing him with a broader and more structured perspective that deeply influences his artistic process. Square and rectangular forms, diverse lines and angles, and a vibrant color palette are central elements in his work, contributing to a dynamic visual experience that evokes depth and fluidity.
